She specializes in Conservation Medicine with a focus on Aquatics and has a particular interest in elasmobranchs\, teleosts and invertebrates. Her elasmobranch research focuses on health assessments of in situ populations and stress physiology. Dr. Newton received her veterinary degree and anatomic pathology training from the University of Pennsylvania\, School of Veterinary Medicine and following her pathology residency completed the Jane and Marshall Steel Pathology Fellowship at the Zoological Society of San Diego. She was Head of  \nAquatic Health for the WIldlife Conservation Society from 2014 – 2020\, and was a Veterinary Pathologist for Disney’s Animals\, Science and Environment from 2020 – 2022.
